Readers
Reader List Screen
Screen Overview
The Reader List screen provides a searchable, filterable list of all door/elevator readers configured in BluSKY. It is used by administrators and integrators to locate readers, review their attachment and configuration details, and launch actions such as create, view, edit, delete, or generate an expanded printable report.
Field Definitions
| Field Label | Definition | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| System | Filters the list to readers within a specific access control system. | Optional. Defaults to all systems available to the user. |
| Controller | Filters readers attached to a selected controller within the chosen system. | Enabled after selecting a System; values depend on the System. |
| SIO Boards | Filters readers by a specific SIO/IO board. | Useful for hardware-level troubleshooting. |
| Search Text | Free-text search of reader names. Placeholder indicates Mercury reader name. | Partial and case-insensitive match. |
| Reader Type | Filters by the reader’s type (e.g., single, paired, specialized types). | Options depend on hardware support. |
| View | Limits results by status (All Active, Inactive, etc.). | Defaults to All Active. |
| Submit | Executes the search with the current filters. | Required to refresh results after changing filters. |
| Reset | Clears all filters and returns to default view. | Helpful when no results are returned. |
| Reader Count | Displays the total number of readers returned by the current filters. | Read-only. Updates after Submit. |
| Name | The configured name of the reader. | Click to select the row for actions. |
| Attached To | Hierarchical path showing where the reader is attached (site/building > controller > SIO/port). | May display multiple lines for clarity. |
| Reader Channel | Hardware channel number used by the reader. | Typically 1 or 2 for single/paired configurations. |
| Location | Descriptive physical location associated with the reader. | Often mirrors door or area naming standards. |
| Number of Card Types | Count of credential formats enabled for the reader. | Read-only; managed in reader configuration. |
| Reader Configuration | High-level configuration mode (e.g., Single Reader, Paired Reader). | Read-only on the list; editable from the reader detail screen. |
| Pagination | Page controls to navigate through result pages. | Includes numeric pages and next/previous. |
| Selection Counter | Indicator showing how many rows are selected on the current page (e.g., 1/50 selected). | Some actions remain disabled until at least one row is selected. |

System Behaviors and Edge Cases
- Filters are not applied until Submit is clicked; Reader Count updates only after submission.
- Reset clears all filters and reverts View to All Active.
- Large result sets show a loading indicator (Stand by…) and use pagination to improve performance.
- View/Edit/Delete remain disabled until a row is selected; the Selection Counter reflects current selections (e.g., 1/50).
- If incompatible filters are chosen (e.g., Controller not in the selected System), zero results will be returned.
- Search Text is a partial, case-insensitive match; special characters must match existing names to return results.
- After deleting a reader, it may be hidden by the current View filter (e.g., All Active). Switch to Inactive/All to locate it if soft-deleted is retained.
- Expand respects current filters and paging; it returns the expanded view for the entire filtered set, not just the current page.
Permissions
- Accessible to Global Administrators, System/Installer roles, and authorized Tenant Administrators with hardware management rights.
- Create/Edit/Delete require specific reader-management permissions; users without these see the list but not the action buttons.
- Visibility of Systems, Controllers, and SIO Boards is scoped to the user’s assigned portfolios/sites.
Linked Workflows
- Controllers – Define and manage the controllers that readers attach to.
- SIO Boards – Configure the boards/ports used by readers.
- Doors/Access Points – Associate readers with doors or areas for access rules.
- Card Formats/Credential Settings – Manage the credential types that contribute to Number of Card Types.
