Why We Need Your Floor Plans

Why Floor Plans Matter

When BluB0X installs BluSKY in a building, floor plans are the foundation of the entire system design. We don’t just need them for reference — we actively use them to create the interactive maps inside BluSKY that power security, safety, and intelligence across your property.

Without accurate and up-to-date plans, we can’t deliver the precision, clarity, and intelligence that makes BluSKY so effective.

What We Do With Floor Plans

Create Interactive Maps

  • Every device in your building — cameras, readers, intercoms, alarms, and more — is placed on your digital floor plan inside BluSKY. This gives you a clear, 2D map of your security system that anyone can easily understand.

Show Camera Coverage

  • Floor plans let us overlay exactly what each camera sees, so you can quickly tell what areas are covered and what areas are not.

Connect Cameras to Maps

  • Using a process called “homography,” we can match what’s on a camera view to where it sits on the map. This means you can switch between looking at the live camera feed and knowing exactly where in the building that view is located.

Define Areas of Interest

  • We use floor plans to mark named areas — lobbies, offices, stairwells, loading docks. When something happens in a camera, BluSKY can describe it in terms of those familiar areas, giving you rich, meaningful context instead of just a raw video feed.

Generate Heat Maps & Movement Insights

  • With accurate maps, BluSKY can show where people enter, exit, travel, and dwell inside your building. This helps with security, traffic flow, and even space planning.

Teach the Building Oracle

  • Floor plans give our AI-powered “Building Oracle” the information it needs to understand how your building works — how floors connect, how people move, and how spaces relate to each other.

Support Life Safety & Emergency Response

  • Floor plans are critical for evacuation planning, shelter-in-place maps, and safety communications during emergencies.

Why Accuracy and Layers Are Important

The cleaner and more precise the floor plan, the more useful it is:

  • Accurate device placement means fewer mistakes and clearer monitoring.
  • All layers included (walls, doors, stairs, labels) let us create richer maps and more detailed intelligence.
  • Up-to-date plans reflect the building as it really exists, not how it was originally designed.

This is why we strongly prefer CAD, DXF, or BIM files — they include all the necessary layers and details. PDFs or JPEGs can work as a fallback, but they limit what BluSKY can do.

What to Send Us

  • Base Building Projects (entire property: office tower, hospital, school, multifamily, corporate campus):

→ Provide all floors, including basements, roof, and site plan.

  • Tenant or Multi-Floor Occupancy (single company within a larger building):

→ Provide only the tenant-occupied floors plus any shared areas where BluSKY devices will be installed.

  • File Format Preference: CAD, DXF, or BIM.
  • Fallback Option: PDFs (vector preferred) or high-res images.

The Bottom Line

Floor plans aren’t just paperwork. They’re the blueprint that makes your BluSKY system:

✔ Easier to understand

✔ Smarter in how it responds

✔ More powerful in protecting people and property

The better the plans, the better your BluSKY system will work.
