Using Event History to Observe Card Data in BluSKY
Overview
When you’re testing whether new badges (or unknown badges) will function in the BluB0X access control system, BluSKY’s Event History module can help you determine if the badge data is recognized—and if so, which Card Format applies. If the badge data isn’t covered by existing Card Formats, BluCARE can create a new one for you.
Instructions
-
Gather Your Sample Badges
- Collect a few test badges from each new box or group (we recommend at least three badges per badge format).
-
Swipe a Test Badge
- At a Reader connected to a Controller in BluSKY, swipe one of your test badges.
- It will likely be rejected since it isn’t enrolled yet, but that’s expected.

-
Open Event History in BluSKY

- For badge swipe attempts, look for the Portal Credential event category.
-
Locate the Event and View Details
- Find the event in Event History that matches your test swipe (based on timestamp and the Reader you swiped at).
- Click on the lightning bolt icon to open Detailed Event Data:
- Note: Invalid Card Format simply means the Card is not recognized by the platform yet.
- If BluSKY recognizes the Card Format, it will display the Card Format, Card Number, and Facility Code (if applicable):
-
Determine the Correct Card Format
- If the data matches an existing BluSKY Card Format, you can use that format going forward.
- If no existing format captures all the bits from the badge, contact BluCARE to request a new Card Format.
-
Enroll Your Badge
- Once you know which Card Format applies, you can create a new Card in BluSKY, using the found Card Format in the 'Card Type' field.
- Refer to the Card creation article below for a refresher on this process, if needed.
