This sections discusses how specialized SIO Boards are able to  extend the reach of the Controllers.

SIO Boards
SIO boards are designed to expand an access control system. They come in multiple flavors and suit a variety of needs. It is important to remember that all of these board must be connected to a controller either through an RS485 or Ethernet connection.

MR50

The inputs and the relays can be assigned to door-related functions or to general purpose I/O. The inputs support normally open, normally closed, supervised and non-supervised circuits. The relays can be configured for fail-safe or fail-secure operation.

Hardware interface and card format settings are loaded through software commands.

When connected to a Mercury EP intelligent controller, the MR50 Series 2 & 3 SIO can relate the activities of selected system devices to other devices within the system, generating actions and allowing activities to occur independently of the host. The MR50 Series 2 & 3 SIO can also locally process access requests based on facility code verification, even disconnected from an intelligent controller. Up to eight facility codes may be active in each of the MR50 Series 2 & 3 SIO .

MR51E

Built on the Mercury Access Platform, the MR51e & MR62e SIO will relate the activities of selected system devices to other devices within the system, generating actions and allowing activities to transpire independently of the host. The MR51e’s support of paired readers enhances the ability to meet installation challenges, such as placing readers at varying heights or distances to accommodate ingress and egress of handicapped, vehicle and/or foot traffic. These readers can be logically linked together, yet function independently when access identification is presented to either one. When access rights are granted the same relay will function as programmed to unlock the opening

MR52
