Wiring the Arduino

If you power the reader from a source different than the power source for the Arduino, tie the grounds together so the Arduino can recognize the Wiegand data from the reader.

  • The "Pull up" resisters (Shown in the diagram) are only needed if there is excessive bad data from the card reader.
  • These 1K resistors improve the rise time of low to high transition and keep the data line from floating to a "Low".
  • I would not expect to need the pull up resistors in a test bed, only in real environments with longer copper runs from the readers to the converters.
