AWG

American Wire Gauge (AWG)

Wire gauge is the standardized value of the cross section of a solid wire or the equivalent cross section of a stranded wire. The higher the AWG number the smaller the conductor’s cross section.

A good AWG table will include for each gauge, the diameter of the wire, the nominal resistance per foot (or 1000’), its current carrying capacity and fuse rating.
